Calgary rock group's acting career takes off! - (Reuters)
Calgary. Members of Canadian rock group Chixdiggit have seen their
share of the music industry, and they are becoming increasingly
familiar with the magic of Hollywood.
On Tuesday June 8th filming
commences for "Honey I Shrunk the Kids- the TV series".
The episode, directed by John Landis, of Blues Brothers' fame, features
a 60's rock group, "The Sweater Vests", which will be
played by Mark, Mike, KJ and Dave.
"Acting is nothing
new to us," Dave Alcock commented to a recent inquiry by chixdiggit.com
staff writer M. Karel Eggermont. "Being a musician exposes
you to all sorts of situations in which good acting skills are paramount."
Chixdiggit were hand-picked
by John Landis from audition videos submitted by scores of other
aspiring actors. When reached
at his Bel-Aire home, Landis confirmed that he was immediately captivated
by the natural personalities and the rugged yet boyish good looks
of his latest discovery. "Chixdiggit could have even made Blues
Brothers 2000 a hit, had I discovered them in time."
In last few years Chixdiggit
have appeared in 2 music videos, and have dabbled in extra work
on TV series Viper. KJ Jansen has appeared in a commercial for the
Calgary Stampede, and Mike Eggermont has done voice-over work for
the Government of Alberta Agriculture department. Last summer brought
the band the opportunity to work alongside Jim Carrey, Courtney
Love and Danny DeVito in the upcoming release "Man on the
Moon". Chosen from a large group of tourists outside Mann's
Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Chixdiggit
was prominently placed in row 26 of the LA Theater during the filming
of the "Radio City Music Hall" scene of the Jim Carrey
vehicle about the life of Andy Kaufmann.
"Just when we thought
we'd have a quiet summer at home..." laughed KJ. "These
are exciting times!"
